Creating a New Layout

The original house layout was very ‘compartmentalized.’ Each room had at least two doorways and there was a hallway running through the house wasting space. Our master bedroom had two doorways, the kitchen had three, and the dining room had two. So we tore down the wall between the kitchen and the dining room, took out the tiny disgusting pantry, closed up one doorway which you can see {Here}, rerouted our bedroom entrance along with creating a little hallway so that the bedroom door didn’t open right up facing the stove, and took down a hallway wall to enlarge Ryker’s room.

Below is the original hallway.

At the end of the hall is the original entrance to the master bedroom. Right of that is one of the entrances to the kitchen. The first doorway to the left is Ryker’s room. We close off the master bedroom doorway and the kitchen entrance and tear down the wall between Ryker’s doorway and the end of the hallway.

Wall is down!

After that wall was torn down we built a new doorway for him and closed the old hallway-to-kitchen doorway, and the original master bedroom doorway.

Ryker’s new doorway! We used the old door which i will NEVER do again.

As you can see a little in the pic above, we also opened up the doorway from the hallway to the dining room.

This might not look like a huge change but it made the HUGEST difference!

The picture below shows the before and after of taking down the kitchen-dining room wall!

House Project – Closing a doorway

As i mentioned before, our master bedroom had two doorways. I think this is because originally the room was built as a den, connected to the garage. Then the garage was remodeled into a living room and the doorway into it was kept. Here are some pics.

Took stairs off and framed it. It was open to the crawl space for a while – not cool

This isn’t the best pic but we drywalled over, removed wallpaper border, painted a fresh coat of flat white, put the wainscoting over where the stairs were. Now all we need is to fine a matching piece of trim (and clean).

House in the Woods – A Fixer Upper

As i said in my last post, hubby and i BOUGHT OUR FIRST HOUSE!! After putting in offers for four other properties and then losing them for one reason or another, we finally got one! It seemed like it was never going to happen. This house was not exactly our first choice – the backyard has a steep hill and the living room is four steps down from the rest of the house because it used to be a garage some 30-50 years ago. The house was built in 1942 and every single room needed updating.  But we saw that part as a good thing because we wanted a fixer upper that we can eventually make some cold hard cash on once we sell. Here are some before pictures.

And of course, the bathroom has the beautiful wall paper to match.

So much has changed since I last posted *once again*.  We bought a house!!!!!! Finally!!!! It’s a fixer-upper and nothing is going as quickly as I imagined it would in my HGTV dreams. Also, Ryker turns 1 in 1 week and I’m 14 weeks pregnant with baby #2 :-).

Our house has already gone though some major layout changes. First of all, our bedroom now only has 1 doorway. *More to come soon*

Things I’ve made in the past year

I don’t think I’ve blogged for almost a year!! I’ve made a few crafts here and there. I SHOULD make a separate post for each one… and in time maybe I will {?} but for now I just want to share the finished products.

Long Time No Post

Wow! It’s been a long time since I’ve been on here. So much has changed for me in the last year! Ever since a little before my wedding {8-31-13} I was too stressed, too busy, to keep up with crafting & blogging. Why? I’m not sure. Once my wedding was over I was SICK of DIY for a good long while. I took on so much for my wedding!

Then, I found out I was pregnant last year on February 10. I was VERY nauseous basically my whole pregnancy. I would cry when my husband cooked chicken because I swore he was doing it just to make me mad because he knew it bothered me {not true at all}. I {thankfully} had a job where I could work from home when I needed to, and was ALWAYS extremely tired. I would also go to sleep for the night once I got home from work many days. SO being pregnant is probably a valid excuse for my lack of crafting and blogging.

Also, we have been planning to move to TN for quite some time. We still live in DC. The plan was for me to find a job in January-ish of this year. I did not find one. Our lease was up Feb 7 and we knew we were not staying in that expensive, 1 bedroom apartment any longer. So, for a while {Even before baby came} I really didn’t want to craft too much because we were planning to move soon. {I did make a bunch of dream catchers, which I will post about soon, but not much else}

Like anyone who is a parent will understand, once you have your first child your life is turned upside down. Definitely no time for crafting for the first few months.

Present day – we move out of the old 1 bedroom apartment when the lease was up. We got a sub-lease that ends April 17th in a two bedroom apartment. Mr. Ryker Thomas is 5 months old in three days {!!!!!!} And I found a new job and we are moving to Tennessee in the next couple months!!

Right now everything is in boxes but I have already started planning EVERYTHING for our new house! We found a house! The inspection is actually happening today. YAY

Here is my dream baby nursery, although we haven’t lived anywhere that I have been able to do this. But SOON WE WILL!!

Baby Bedroom

I love this nursery. Maybe a little less pink since we have a baby boy. I also want a plain white fuzzy rug instead of the one in the picture.

This next picture is what I want to do for Ryker’s closet, but I would do light lime green instead of yellow. Can’t wait!!
